Hi We are Margi & Doug Erickson of 5 Star Innsitters.

We are the former owners of C.W. Worth House Bed and Breakfast in Wilmington, NC. For 22 years we hosted thousands of guests at our 7 guestroom inn, many of whom returned regularly and some are friends for life. Our goal was also exceeding our guests’ expectations. From the first genuine greeting to the hugs before leaving, we enjoyed all aspects of innkeeping. We served a two-course breakfast menu with consideration for dietary requests. Although we did not cater to any one dietary issue, we accomodated everyone’s needs. We knew we needed breaks and hired relief innsitters when we could.

After 22 years we have sold the inn and are excited to travel a bit and help other innkeepers get the R&R they need. Doug is a ‘handyman’ and can handle issues/repairs as they arise. We are both keen to details. We will provide you with a full written report after our experience at your bed and breakfast. Both Margi & Doug cook the breakfasts and are well versed in ThinkReservations. We would prefer one week or less and wish to stay within North Carolina for the time-being. Eventually we would like to travel to Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Florida and California as we have family members in each of those states.

We look forward to giving your guests 5 star service!

As a former owner of a successful café for over 18 years at the “Jersey Shore,” I enjoyed baking and creating wholesome meals from scratch, including special dietary needs, for all my loyal customers. I’ve learned every facet of what it takes to run and maintain a business.

I have good knowledge and practice of:
– Creative healthy breakfasts from 1 – 20 people
– Running and maintaining day-to-day operations
– Managing staff
– Remaining calm with difficult situations
– Developing an eye for detail
– Excellent customer service

As an Innkeeper for over 10 years, I cared for many Inns including historic ones which have given me an appreciation of their grandeur, tenderness and sometimes even quirkiness. I understand the business including the ups, downs and the unexpected which has helped to keep my Inns running efficiently and profitably for the owners and enjoyable for the guests who pass through my doors. Guests have always been my number one priority.

I am savvy with social media; reservation systems and I truly enjoy being a knowledgeable concierge service for all my guests. In your absence, I will ensure your guests will enjoy their stay and will give your Inn my full attention.

I am available to you for as few as one day in the Tr-State area* which will allow you to sneak away and relax or to give you peace of mind while you run important errands.

Please feel free to call or email any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!

While no one can actually take your place at your business, I try my best to keep your business running in a way that goes beyond your expectations.

I have had 12 years of experience successfully owning and operating a Select Registry, 21 room full service Country Inn. The Inn included a restaurant and with the help of a fabulous staff, went from being a mere listing to four diamond status. I also have another 12 years of experience in consulting with B&Bs, Country Inns and restaurants.

My belief is that Great Customer Service is the major key to success in the hospitality business and I truly enjoy making guests feel like they are the most special folks in the world while guests at your B&B or Inn. . .and they are! If you have staff, I work very hard to make them feel comfortable while you are away. I am very proficient at preparing and serving wonderful meals–either using your menus or creating ones while you are away.

My goals as an Interim Innsitter are:

  • To provide you with peace of mind that you have left your business in the best of hands while you are away!
  •  Each of your guests will leave with a smile and a plan to return and recommend your wonderful establishment!

I’ve lived in North Carolina all of my life (UNC-Chapel Hill Class of ’82) with vacation homes in Raleigh, the coast and the North Carolina mountains.  I currently reside at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.   My professional career in healthcare allowed me to travel nationwide, and with daughters in Ecuador and Washington, DC, I continue to enjoy traveling.   I am open to traveling outside of the southeast region.

For the past 20 years, I have been prolifically involved with entertaining, floral design and local charity leadership.  A few years ago, several friends invited me to manage their Bed and Breakfasts while they were away – and I have fallen in love with the experience!   I believe my job is to create a space for your guests where they feel comfortable and special – in the same manner that you would.   Many of my guests have never experienced a Bed and Breakfast – and I strive to insure they have the best experience possible.   It’s important to be accessible to our guests, but also allow them the personal space they need to enjoy the Inn and the community.   It is also important for me to research the area so that I can provide more detailed information for guests regarding local community activities, restaurants and events as needed.

As a professional, I have exceedingly strong skills in communication, leadership with a team, problem-solving and organization.   I enjoy working with your staff and have developed great relationships with the support team.  I always pitch in to support their efforts to do a great job.   You will find me outgoing, friendly, responsible, even keeled and welcoming.

In addition to my gourmet breakfast menus, I am happy to utilize your personal recipes and host afternoon Happy Hour if that is part of your offering.    I hold my certification with the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, am a member of the Interim Innkeepers Association and a certified floral designer.   I look forward to being a part of your team!

Call us today and plan your time away!
We can be there for you so you can take away time to smell the roses! Innkeepers invest hours and hours of time to develop a successful bed and breakfast. Time away for rest and relaxation is important for rejuvenation of the bed and breakfast owners. We know! There are also times when the necessities of family life events also are important for time away, i.e. weddings, funerals, hospital visits…..

As past owners of an award-winning bed and breakfast of 20 years, we can appreciate how important it is to an owner to be confident in the abilities of an innsitter to attend to the inn and its guests. Our goal has always been to be perceptive of guests’ needs, to make them feel comfortable in the bed and breakfast environment, to pay attention to details, and to provide a dining experience for the guests at breakfast.

Our History: In 1997, we established the Deutsche Strasse Bed and Breakfast in New Ulm, MN. At that time, there were no bed and breakfasts in this charming town and we were satisfying a definite need in that town. The Deutsche Strasse received several awards while we were owners, including the Trip Advisor Award of Excellence for several years, the Best Historic Bed and Breakfast in Minnesota, and it was rated as the top bed and breakfast in New Ulm on Trip Advisor.

After 20 years of enjoying our innkeeping career and lifestyle, we sold the business and “retired” to a small town on a river that connects two lakes.  We found, though, that after eight months of the quiet life, we missed the role of being hosts. We now offer our applied experience to being innsitters when owners of bed and breakfasts need to get away for pleasure, family, or health.  We are looking forward to meeting you!

Thank you for taking the time and consideration to read over my profile.  I would be thrilled to manage your business for you in your absence.   I’ve been in the hospitality field practically my entire life, but have been working professionally in the Bed and Breakfast and Event Industry for over 10 years.  I ran my own bed & breakfast for several years and then was hired by a relative to start and run his bed & breakfast inn and event venue business until he sold the property.   I absolutely enjoy not only meeting guests, but taking care of them, making sure they have a wonderful experience. I am most definitely a people person. It seems I never meet a stranger.   I am accustomed to working long hours in making sure that not only guests have a wonderful and memorable experience, but that the owner’s property is well taken care of in the process.  I am a “hands on” kind of person.  I won’t ask other employees to do a job I myself am unwilling to do.  I am a problem solver, self-starter, and have great interpersonal skills.
It is most important that I always show the property/business in a positive light.  I have a very upbeat personality and attitude no matter the job whether it’s cooking breakfast, assisting in the housekeeping, working in the yard, or taking care of any minor repairs or maintenance issues.  It is imperative to me that the job is done correctly and to the owner’s specifications.  I might mention that I own a historical house which is also a Mississippi Landmark that I rent out to nightly guests.  I know the importance of making sure the guests are well taken care of and that the property is always ready for the guests arrival.
Thank you for taking the time to consider hiring me to manage your business.  I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you.

Our History: Being hard-working entrepreneurs is in our blood! Doug has owned his accounting business since 1981 and I have owned and managed several small business ventures over my over 30-year professional career. In 2007, we purchased a beautiful,1892 Queen Anne Victorian home in Faribault, MN that needed a lot of love. After a whirl-wind 6 months, a totally-renovated and period-correct Historic Hutchinson House B&B was born!  We provided authentic hospitality, unparalleled guest relations, sumptuous breakfasts . . . and we did it all ourselves! Over the next 12 years we received several awards, including the Trip Advisor Award of Excellence multiple times, the Best Historic Bed and Breakfast in Minnesota, and were rated as the #1 Bed and Breakfast in Faribault on Trip Advisor.

God truly blessed us with a sale of the property in July 2019, just before the pandemic hit. Luckily, the new owners never intended to use the home to the extent that we did, so no one was harmed financially in the transition. During, and especially after the pandemic, we found we missed the role of being hosts. We now offer our applied experience to innsitters when owners of bed and breakfasts need to get away for pleasure, family, or health.  We are looking forward to serving you!

Biographical Info

I have an extensive and varied background in the hospitality and service industries for over 30 years. From 2018 to present I have been an interim innkeeper working throughout the country. I have managed inns in high traffic vacation areas such as Cape Cod, MA, Palm Springs, CA, Lake Placid, NY, and Buena Vista, CO. I started my inn career doing spa treatments at a resort inn in Maryland. It was a beautiful Select Registry bed and breakfast on the Chesapeake Bay and a desired destination wedding venue. Previous to innkeeping I owned a spa and hair business. The Maryland inn wanted to add spa treatments to their offerings and reached out to me. They quickly became in need of management help and I stepped into the position. This is where the love of BnB hospitality began for me. I moved into a permanent assistant manager position, then acting manager. When my four children grew to adulthood I took the opportunity to travel as an Interim Innsitter. My original Maryland inn is a place I return to often.

Prior to the BnB world, and sometimes concurrently to running a spa business, I held various positions in event catering including manager, sales, cook, and server. Prior to those positions I worked as a cook in a restaurant that served breakfast and lunch. Organization and time management are my superpowers to the point that I
started my own company over a decade ago as an Organizer and Life Coach
helping clients bridge the gap between where they are and where they want
to be. It was during a self care weekend getaway checking in with my
company’s goals that an opportunity to be an Innkeeper for 2 months
crossed my path. I, of course, took the opportunity, falling in love with the
connection with guests and the Innkeeper lifestyle.

Since then, I have found mentors, attended workshops and trainings,
shadowed veteran Innkeepers, and completed Interim Innkeeping jobs on
my own. I’ve realized that the skills I have mastered over the years through
my own company and Special Education, easily translate over into the
Innkeeping world. I am confident in my abilities to be able to step in as an
Innkeeper for you using my resourcefulness skills to make the transition
period as smooth as possible.

After retiring from the film industry in 2017, I moved into hospitality management. My experience in
film production and property management made this transition seamless. Now, I leverage my
background as an Interim Innkeeper -Chef – B&B consultant, and often, on-site Event Coordinator. I
love what I do!
My assignments have spanned various states and regions, including Vermont, upstate New York,
Hawaii, Montana, Wyoming, Michigan, Alaska, New Mexico, Utah, Virginia, British Columbia plus
others. I’m a member of the Interim Innkeeping Network & ALP. Adding to my experience, I hold the
following certifications: SERVSAFE Manager – Certified Nutritionist through Duke University School
of Integrative Nutrition – Dr. Sears Wellness Institute – Red Cross CPR. To add, 1st Responder training
As an Interim Innkeeper, I manage operations, chef services, staff oversight, and tourism. In the
owners’ absence, I ensure the inn runs smoothly and upholds its quality standards that maintain
the charm of your Inn.

Three guest recommendations:
“Coming from Italy and Mexico, Deborah was an amazing Host. She helped create a wonderful
experience and a very pleasant surprise. We loved it! Grazie Mille!” Mariangela Zappia,
Ambassador
“Poached pears in white wine over crème fraiche and garnished with a stick of cinnamon.
Scrambled eggs with fresh chives and sundried tomatoes, with a side of homemade pierogis filled
with potatoes and light cheese. Deborah Snow used to feed film crews, who are desperately in need
of inventive, creative chefs who provide refuge from horrendous filming schedules with culinary
comfort. Here she invents the dreamy, beautifully presented breakfasts daily after meeting her
guests and “reading” their tastes. Snow’s multiple inn-keeping and cooking skills certainly created a
temporary “home” in this charming B&B, in the town where early 20th century feminist poet, Edna
St. Vincent Millay, one of the first female Pulitzer Prize-winners, grew up”. Janis Johnson, The
